Module 1 Course 2: Introduction to Financial Analysis

This course explains how to analyze financial statements and evaluate the financial condition of a company. Specific types of analysis such as ratio analysis and horizontal analysis are illustrated. The course also works through important calculations such as cost of capital and Earnings Before Interest Taxes Depreciation Amortization (EBITDA). The supplemental workbook documents complete examples from the course including benchmarking and economic analysis. Terminology used in the course is posted as a separate file within the Learning Management System.

The course consists of eight chapters: Chapter 1 - Quick Accounting Recap (highlight key points to make sure you understand the sources), Chapter 2 - Reading Financial Statements (what to look for when reading financial statements), Chapter 3 - Horizontal and Vertical Analysis, Chapter 4 - Ratio Analysis, Chapter 5 - Key Financial Indicators (Return on Investment, EBITDA), Chapter 6 - Economic Analysis (Net Present Value, Payback), Chapter 7 - Forecasting, and Chapter 8 - Advanced Analysis (ratio models).

This is an introductory course - no prior knowledge of financial analysis is needed. You are encouraged to complete Course 1 - The Basics of Accounting prior to taking this course since this course assumes you understand accounting. Objective

Learn various techniques and calculations important to analyzing the financial condition of companies including the use of ratios, trends, and benchmarking. Pre Requisites

You should consider completing Course 1 - The Basics of Accounting before you take this course, especially if you do not have a good understanding of accounting. This course assumes you know something about accounting.

Exam

A Final Exam consisting of 20 multiple choice questions is provided. You must answer at least 14 of 20 questions correctly to pass.


Certificate

A Certificate of Completion is issued once you complete the entire course program and pass the Final Exam. Certificates become part of your permanent transcript record.
