Question: I'm not sure how your services can benefit my organization. Can you give me some specific examples?

Answer
: Here are three quick examples of what I can do:
1) I can setup capital budgeting and investment decision making to ensure that you are creating value. If you fail to use value-based financial management, you could be destroying value.
2) I can advise you on how to improve your current financial management practices. For example, you may need to implement a three model approach when evaluating a project. Discounted Cash Flows is one of three models that you use within the overall process.
3) I can assist you with the implementation of performance measurement systems that focus on value-based management. Value is created from a multitude of things: Innovation, customer service, efficient operations, using the best technologies, having the best people, and so forth.

: I'm reluctant to go out on a limb and start using your services. How can I use your services on a small-scale just to see how financial management works?

Answer
: No problem. Let me do a quick review or post audit of a past investment decision you made and make some quick recommendations to improve your decision making procedures. Also, I can setup some good benchmarks for evaluating your financial performance. These types of mini-projects can be done very quickly with major benefits to your organization.

: Can you provide training and support so we can do our own financial management?

Answer
: Absolutely! I'll be glad to train your people so that you can implement value-based financial management or some other form of finance that you need help with. See In-House Training for more information.

: How much do you charge for your services?

Answer
: Most of my services are charged on a daily basis at approximately $ 2,000.00 per day. Visit the Billing Rates page for the most current information.

: When you meet with a client, is there a common theme or comment that takes place?

Answer
: Yes, I often hear that "we didn't know this" or "we need to start doing this" or "we need to change how we are doing this." Sometimes it's something simple like using Fuzzi-Calc to do expected values, using Modified Internal Rates of Returns to eliminate false assumptions, or maybe realizing that Value Based Metrics need to compliment traditional accounting type metrics

: How long does a typical assignment last?

Answer
: That's very hard to say. It depends upon the assignment. If you have something simple like capital budgeting support or a quick benchmarking study, less then two months. If you require assistance with implementing financial management or balanced scorecarding, then we're talking several months.

: Sometimes consultants try to enlarge their assignments and stay-on forever. How do I know you're not one of those types of consultants?

Answer
: Well, first of all I like keeping my practice small and manageable. As Tom Peters would say: "Small is big." Also, my overall goal is to get you to a higher level so you can depend upon yourself and not me. Therefore, I am not motivated by creating more and more business. My emphasis is on quality, not quantity. By remaining small, I can provide personal service that is fast and flexible.

: How can you handle your assignments all by yourself? Don't you use support staff to successfully complete your assignments?

Answer
: Yes, I may need to enlist either your people or outside help to complete an assignment. Also keep in mind that I rely on your people to implement many of the ideas that will work for your organization. My main role is to facilitate the process through the transfer of knowledge so that you end-up owning the system. I also partner with other consulting firms such as Global Resources and the Alliance for Corporate Wealth. So I do have some big consulting practices behind my practice.


Question: What makes you different than other consultants providing similar type services?

Answer
: Two important points - Knowledge and Execution. My knowledge in finance is very advanced in comparison to most consultants and my ability to transfer this knowledge to your organization is very rapid. If I had to point to one difference that separates my practice from all other consultants, it would be my ability to rapidly execute "best practices" in finance for a client. This fast turn-around time makes my service more value-added than most other consultants who tend to have much longer performance periods. One reason for my rapid delivery cycle is the fact that I tend to simplify things so you can execute very fast. For example, in the year 2004, I designed and developed a baseline Balanced Scorecard in three days whereas other consultants may have taken weeks.
