Quick Overview
The exe file version of the short course includes some additional features and content not found in the pdf or word versions. Additionally, if you are seeking Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits, you must take the exe file version since you need to pass an exam to receive credit. The exe file version of the course includes an interactive exam (automatically graded) along with a certificate of completion (requires 70% to pass).
The exe file is a self-contained program; i.e. it includes several files, which collectively allow you to take the short course. For example, the exe file includes “wav” files for audio and a “dtx” file for base content.

Loading the Short Course
You can now take the inter-active version of a short course. Here are the steps:
Step 1: From your home window, point / click your Start button, select Programs, select E-Book Reader -> E-Book Reader. You should see a large dialog box fill the center of your screen for Digital Trainer. In the lower left corner of this box, point and click on the Library icon. This is where all short courses are stored.
Step 2: The Open dialog box should appear for loading the course. Notice that the directory is set to C:\READER, but we stored our course in C:\BOOKS. This appears in the open white area under the directories section. Left click your mouse TWICE to show all folders under C:\. Move down to the folder icon denoted as “books”.
Step 4: Notice that the directory listed is now C:\BOOKS and the dtx file is the target file. Point your mouse over the dtx file and left-click your mouse to highlight the file. Notice that the lower section of the dialog box fills up with information: Title of course, Author, and other information. Click OK to continue.
Step 5: The Enter Your Name dialog box will now appear in the center of your screen. Enter your first name in the first name box and enter your last name in the last name box. Leave the Department and Identification # boxes blank. Click OK to continue.
Step 6: A large Book Title dialog box should pop up. This box confirms the course you are about to take. Click OK to continue.
Step 7: The course should load. The first page of the short course will fill the E Book Reader box. Use the scroll bar on the right side of the box to page up and down. Click on the Next icon in the lower, right corner of the box to move to the next page.
Take the Final Exam
If you would like to have a Certificate of Completion for taking a short course, you will need to take the Final Exam. It's fairly easy:
The Exam is located at the end of the short course. A hyperlink should appear on the first page of the short course, taking you directly to the first page of the exam. The exam is the same identical exam that appears in the pdf and word versions of the short course. However, the answers are now in the form of buttons. Point and click the button (answer) that you believe is correct. Move to the next question by clicking on the Next icon. Continue this process until you have answered all ten questions.
That's it! And congratulations for completing a short course.
