If you have a high speed internet connection, then we can use Microsoft's NetMeeting program for on-line collaboration. If you have a recent version of Windows Operating System on your computer, go to the Start Menu and see if you already have NetMeeting. It is sometimes buried under the Accessories path. If you are using Microsoft Vista operating system, then you will need to use Windows Meeting Space. NOTE: Microsoft has discontinued Net Meeting! NetMeeting can be used for the following on-line collaboration: - Chat Window (1): Type and send messages within a chat window. (1): Two or more meeting locations can participate, does not require audio or video capture devices.
In order to use NetMeeting for conferencing, you will need a SoundBlaster compatible sound card with full duplex capacity to both record and play sound. If you need a new sound card, two good cards for your computer are Creative Labs AWE32 and Winnov Videum AV. You will need to capture video with the use of a PC Camera (WebCam) connected on your PC. Go to Cam Central for a selection of webcams. If you want the best webcam money can buy, then consider a Polycom.
In order to have a private conference, we will use NetMeeting in conjunction with MS Messenger (Microsoft's ICQ program). In the past, people would simply use NetMeeting in conjunction with public ILS servers. ILS Servers are very slow and open to everyone. In order to connect privately and easily, we will use an ICQ - MS Messenger. By using an ICQ, we can call one another through our own address book (buddy list). Simply right click on the name in the address book, choose "Info" to locate the IP address, copy and paste the IP address into the Call dialog box of NetMeeting.

On the appointed data and time of our meeting, you will need connect to the internet and load NetMeeting. Next, load MS Messenger and select my name (such as my email address) from your address book and see if I'm on-line. Using MS Messenger, we can exchange text and our respective IP address for video conferencing through NetMeeting.
- Video Conferencing with NetMeeting works best with high speed internet connections such as DSL or Cable Modem.
